Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom — Review

Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom — Review is our game review of the popular Attack On Titan game made available by Koei Tecmo in 2016. As an anime fan, I can confirm that Attack on Titan (SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN) has a soft spot in my heart, but I’m going to review this game fairly and squarely today.

So when I heard about a video game version of the popular anime, I couldn’t help but feel the tension in my heart rising. I was incredibly thrilled to play Levi Ackerman or Mikasa Ackerman, and I was honestly intrigued with what I performed.

Just so we’re on the same page, this game was released back in 2016, and is currently available on the following platforms:

• PlayStation 4
• PlayStation 3
• PlayStation Vita
• Xbox One
• Microsoft Windows (PC) (Steam)

As you can see, unfortunately, no PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S, or Nintendo Switch version of Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom is available, but you can play the PlayStation 4 version on a PlayStation 5, it just won’t have any Ps5 enhancements.

A Quick Dive Into Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom is a semi-linear action JRPG published by Koei Tecmo and developed by Omega Force. The game is a recreation of the anime series events while providing light on topics that were left unexplored in the show.

For those who are unaware, Attack on Titan is set in a world where humanity dreads huge (often massive) humanoid beings known as Titans. These creatures’ thoughts are usually zombie-like, except that instead of simply brains, they consume entire humans.

Humanity has sought sanctuary in a region split into three districts. The boundaries of these districts are defined by the walls that surround them.

The game begins with one of the walls collapsing owing to a massive titan’s tremendous kick. As a result, the citizenry is in danger and must retreat further into the city to stay alive, while Titans now wander within the city gates.

The game chronicles the exploits of individuals like Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Lieutenant Levi.



The plot is fairly accurate to the anime, but what happens in the game between significant moments is truly where it excels in terms of storytelling.

You could find out about some of the incidents that led to important story elements right here. Additionally, it clarifies little details like what particular characters did when others were the focus of attention.

As an anime enthusiast, I relished every part of the plot and found it to be entirely new. It has never been more wonderful to relive the events of a well-known series.

Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom — Review

Wings of Freedom stands out the most in terms of gameplay. Traveling from one location to another is frequently accomplished by grappling from building to building at tremendous rates.

The gameplay is quite similar to that of a Spiderman game, with the exception that there must be surrounding structures like buildings, cliff faces, and/or trees for your character to actually hook onto something there.

The fighting system also makes advantage of this principle. Even if the gameplay might get repetitive, the nature of it, as well as the fact that it is distinct from the standard, makes it feel less tedious.

There are several approaches to bringing down a Titan. You may either immediately go for the nape or thoroughly dismember the Titan, which occasionally gets you some more upgrade materials.

Your gear determines your damage and anchor speed, therefore progressing through the tale and obtaining stronger gear is a better strategy than grinding for hours.

This is refreshing because many games need a long grind to gain power. This also prevents you from getting ridiculously powerful and cruising through the game.

Final Thoughts 

Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom is an excellent example of transforming the magnificence of a famous anime series into a really enjoyable video game.

Wings of Freedom accurately reflects the mayhem shown in the anime series with its amazing graphics/art direction, Spiderman-like gameplay, furious battle, and thrilling music. Whether you like the anime series or not, this is a title I would highly suggest.
